Bickley Park waved goodbye to its 99th year on July 10th with a spectacular world record setting event in which the school community endeavoured to eat the most 99 ice creams ever at one time. In spite of hot conditions, and the 20 minutes the older boys had to wait to consume their 99s, over 400 boys and teachers pulled it off. In addition, the school community assembled in the shape of a huge 99, which was then filmed by drone, before morphing into an equally huge 100, to mark the beginning of our centenary celebrations. Nuri and Suleiman joyfully won an ice cream design competition and so each received a luxurious ‘Billionaire’s Ice Cream’, kindly donated by ‘Snowflake Luxury Gelato’. Proceeds from the event will go towards sponsoring four boys from under-privileged communities in Gujarat Province, India, to visit BPS for a fortnight next summer, enabling both Bickley boys, and their Gujarati friends, to learn much about each others’ communities. An exciting programme of events awaits the school community in the centenary year in which the boys will:
- learn about Bickley Park’s interesting past, including recreating a school day from 100 years ago; celebrating Enid Blyton, who used to teach at the school; welcoming hundreds of old boys to an alumni event and recreating a sports fixture from 100 years ago by playing rugby at Allianz Park against two Prep Schools formerly located in the area
- consider their interesting future, through an exciting ‘Future Day’ and a careers event for 5-13 year olds
- celebrate other communities through a series of community events leading up to a massive centenary community street party to mark the end of a memorable year.
