Fascinating (and environmentally friendly) stalls at the BPSA Fayre

December is upon us – assessments are over (big cheer!) and holidays are looming ever closer (even bigger cheer!).  Bickley always manages to get you into the Christmas spirit with its wide array of themed events: from Year 4 assemblies, to Christmas jumpers, to the fantastic decorations and tree that makes the school look amazing.  Oh and very importantly, this Friday (7th December at 3pm) we have the BPSA Christmas Fayre. We are looking forward to the whole Bickley community visiting our annual fayre which promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Me meeting some friendly reindeer at last year’s Fayre

Being in Year 8 means we will be involved in much of the activity on Friday afternoon.  In our DT lessons we have been busily crafting and creating some great (and slightly bizarre) gifts.  And on the topic of the fayre, I would like to point out that there will be one particular stall (drum roll please) which will have some highly original, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to buy…. centenary coasters and mugs.  You will find me, and my coaster colleague Angus, working hard to convince you that you need another Bickley mug to add to your already crowded collection.

Now, you may be wondering what I meant by an environmentally friendly stall…. Well, it so happens that while sitting in my Christmas jumper and sipping at my eggnog (not really – that is a Christmas step too far) I remembered there will be another must-visit stall at the fair.  This one is slightly more original and a lot more environmentally friendly.  It is being run by Oskar (Year 6) and this is what he has to say about it:

In the summer I read a book called, ‘How to give up Plastic’ by Will McCallum.* This inspired me to start a company and I have bought large quantities of products which are plastic free like: metal water bottles, metal straws and bamboo toothbrushes, all with my logo on them.  I will be selling all these items at the Bickley Park School Fayre.  One of the rooms in my house is nearly full of these products so PLEASE help and have a look at my stall.  Be kind to the world and its oceans by buying one of my plastic free products.  Thank you – Oskar.

There will be loads of great Christmas gifts to buy AND lots of fun activities that will be run by us Year 8s, so I guarantee it will be a great afternoon for all the family.  Please do come along and support us!

And while I am recommending Bickley events, I must also put in a word for our Drama Enrichment Production which is, ‘A Christmas Carol’.  We have been working really hard to ensure it is a great show that everyone can enjoy.  Year 3 are providing the singing voices which means there are no less than 3 occasions to watch the show as each Year 3 class will be performing on one of the evenings.  If you REALLY want to feel in the mood for Christmas, then do come along and watch what happens when Scrooge is confronted by 3 ghosts!

Have a great Christmas everyone – I will be back with you in the New Year.    Finley
