On Wednesday, February 8th 2012, Year 3 visited the Ragged School Museum.
First of all Michelle spoke to us and prepared us for a lesson as a Victorian school boy.
We went to the classroom, which looked very different from our own classrooms, and met Hilary. She told us that she would become Miss Perkins, a very strict Victorian teacher.
We had a lesson where we learnt the alphabet, practised writing on a slate and did the 3 ‘R’s.
We had to be quiet and sit up straight. She had a cane and told us off if our hands were dirty.
The punishments were the backboard, the finger trap and the dunce’s hat.
After this, we went to a Victorian kitchen and saw how hard life was for poor people in Victorian times. They had no machines and no running water.
Then we went to the shop and got on the coach to come home. We had a lovely time and really enjoyed ourselves.
