Charity Donations

Orpington Foodbank have confirmed that we donated 135.0 kg as a result of our Harvest collection and would like us to thank all who contributed.

As a result of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, Prep collected £182.96 and Pre-Prep £77.14; many thanks for your generous support.

Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child

On Thursday, November 30th 2011, a van called at Prep to collect 84 Shoeboxes. Boys excitedly helped to carry the boxes to the van, where they were told by one of the drivers that he actually delivers the boxes to children in other countries. He told us that we would not believe the joy that these boxes bring to these children who have no parents.

Thank you to all of you who have given so generously and kindly to this cause. The boys, as they brought their boxes into school, often had tales to tell about their boxes, what they had bought, how they had chosen the items and where they hoped the boxes would go. They all had smiles on their faces as they thought about giving something to others, especially at this time of the year.

Many thanks to you all.

Senior Play at Christmas

Christmas is fast approaching and Bickley Park’s Seniors would like you to celebrate with them. You are cordially invited to their production: a short play complimented by some seasonal entertainment. The evening will begin with mince pies and drinks in the Lodge. Once everyone is assembled, we will be led to the Theatre by the evening’s host, Ben Sturgess, for “The Spelling Mistakes”, a humorous one-act play by Eugene Labiche.

With a 6.30pm start everyone should be ready for home by 7.30pm; it is therefore an ideal opportunity for some of the younger boys to enjoy the evening too. The play itself will be most enjoyed by parents and boys from Year 5 and above.

Please contact Mrs Marriott for tickets via email at smarriott@bickleyparkschool.co.uk or by completing the slip sent home with your son this week. This slip can also be downloaded from your log-in area on the school website.

Trip to the Lille Christmas Market

Last Saturday, boys in the Christmas Market Club and boys in Year 8 went on a day trip to the Lille Christmas Market with Mrs Cash, Mrs Gallegillo, Mrs Wheeler and Mr Dean. We enjoyed ourselves visiting the market and practising our French. Below are some of the comments made by the boys who went on that trip.

I took my family to Lille. I enjoyed going on the Ferris wheel because I could see the whole city. It looked very pretty. I had steak and French fries in a nice restaurant. What I liked best was going round the market. George Lancaster

There were about sixty stalls in the Lille Christmas market. My mum and I went on a ride. It was scary! It was 50 meters high and it had no roof. You could go around six times. Archie Ramanathan

I ate a hot dog for lunch and I bought some gifts for my mum and dad. I also bought some things for myself. I saw many stores. I enjoyed the trip and would like to go again. Richard Kapland

My dad came on the trip with me. We went to the market and I had a baguette for lunch. Then I went on the ‘Lille eye’ (‘Lille oeil’). It was scary but my dad was there with me. So it was OK. After that, I went on the carrousel. I would personally go back there some day. Alex Copley

I went to the Lille Christmas Market to buy things, have fun and go on the big wheel. I came with my mum and my grandma. I enjoyed it and would like to go back there again. Christian Nuijens
