THE BEEHIVE

Edition 7 - 11th November 2011
11.11.11.11 - Remembrance

On Friday morning those in KS2 and 3 watched boys from Years 7 and 8 perform a moving recognition of Remembrance Day, showing its significance and importance to us all. Staff and pupils later gathered in the damp and chilly air outside the Lodge to observe a two minute silence at the stroke of 11 O’ clock, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, and for this, the ninetieth anniversary of the Royal British Legion, the eleventh year of the new millennium. Lest we forget…

Police Notice

Unfortunately, we have had a visit from the police to let us know that they have had several complaints from neighbours about inconsiderate parking by our parents.

They said that they will be utilising the smart camera car more frequently and will be patrolling on foot also, and will issue tickets where appropriate. They asked that we issue a note via the Beehive to warn parents of the presence of the Smartcar and the patrols as they do not wish to issue tickets unless they have to.

Could we also remind you that, for safety reasons, NO parents’ or guardians’ vehicles are permitted in any areas of the car park at drop off or pick-up times.

Children in Need

On Friday 18th November we will be joining the nation in fundraising for Children in Need and hope to ‘Wear spots and raise lots’…… Children are invited to wear something spotty with their school uniform (tie, socks, hat, bandana etc) and to donate £1.00 for the privilege.  In addition, we shall be selling Pudsey cookies for £1.00 each; these will be on sale in the dining room at break at Prep and from class teachers at morning break at Pre-Prep.  Pre-Prep parents may send money in a named envelope to be given to the class teachers, and pupils at Prep can donate their £1.00 to the collectors who will be at the gate before school and purchase the cookies from the reps in the dining room at break.

Thank you in advance for your support.

The Shoebox Appeal

In assembly on Monday, we watched a film about sick, poor and orphaned children around the world who were given shoeboxes filled with treats last Christmas. We were all very humbled by the sight of these children who were so excited about and so grateful for gifts of many of the things we take for granted: - a pair of socks, a new pencil, a rubber ball. As a result, we are encouraging all boys to fill a shoebox ( or two!) with gifts for a boy or a girl as part of the Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Appeal.

KEY INFORMATION
final date for shoeboxes to be given in to school is Wednesday 23rd November. We will advise you closer to the time where the drop-off zone at school is.

Contents of shoeboxes

  • All items must be new
  • No items needing replacement batteries
  • Sweets must have an expiry date past March 2012
  • Shoebox lids and bottoms must be wrapped separately to make them easy to open.
  • After filling the box, please put £2.50 or more in the donation envelope and slip it on the top of the contents before securing the lid with an elastic bag.

All other relevant information can be found in the Samaritan’s Purse booklet that your son brought home this week or on the website www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk

Let’s help to make Christmas special for all children this year!

BPSA - Cake Sale - Containers

All containers that were named have been returned.  However, there are still a few floating around in the school offices / waiting areas.  If you have not collected your boxes, please make sure you do so by Friday 18th November.  After this date anything that has not been collected will be disposed of. Many thanks.
